Word from the Changemaker
"I decided to make a poster dedicated to Joan Baez the great singer and songwriter whom I grew up listening to. Every day she inspired me, that I am not defined by anything but what I can be. She broke the constraints of being known in relation to Bob Dylan, defining herself and her legacy.
In eighth grade, I took a class called Women in History, where I had to make a presentation each week on a woman who I was interested in. So, to challenge myself, I chose to only focus on women who shared the intrinsic virtues of justice, and who were also Latina, oftentimes seeing a lack of representation in a sea of images of Ada Lovelace and Florence Nightingale.
I chose to present Joan Baez, and who would know that a few years later the same inspiration would strike again. As a young, female, and Latina activist, fighting to make a change in this world, I see a passion and a role model in Joan Baez, and for that reason wanted to honor her.
Thank you so much for making this project available for everyone, It’s important to share these amazing women, from all times and all cultures.
Happy Women’s History Month!"
